How to Write a Product Title That Ranks and Converts

How to write a product title that earns the click and ranks: leading with the right keyword, staying inside Amazon's 75-character limit, and staying readable on Amazon and dropshipping pages alike.

Last updated: July 2026

Your title does two jobs at once. It has to help the right shoppers find your product, and it has to make them want to click once they do. Get the balance wrong in either direction and you lose sales: no keywords and nobody finds you, all keywords and nobody clicks.

Writing titles for Amazon

Amazon tightened its title rules in 2026: titles in most categories are now capped at 75 characters, including spaces. That's a big cut from the old limit, and it means you can't list every feature. Pick the ones that matter.

  • Lead with the product and your main keyword. The first few words carry the most weight for ranking and for readability, so put the term shoppers actually search there.
  • Add the single most important qualifier. Size, material, quantity, or the one benefit that sets the product apart, whichever a buyer most needs to know.
  • Keep it human. Write a title a person would read out loud, not a string of keywords glued together. Amazon's guidance and its ranking both favour clarity now.
  • Put the rest in the backend. Keywords that don't fit the title still belong in Amazon's backend search-term fields, where they help you get found without cluttering what the shopper sees.
With only 75 characters, treat the title like a headline. One clear product statement plus one strong reason to click beats a list of six half-relevant features.

Writing titles for dropshipping pages

You have more room on your own store, but the same discipline wins. Lead with a benefit-led, readable title, work in the term people search so you can rank on Google and on the platform, and resist the urge to cram. A title like 'Posture Corrector That Actually Stays Put' sells better than a keyword pile, because it speaks to the buyer instead of the algorithm.

Test and refine

Your first title is a draft. Once traffic is flowing, try a sharper benefit or a different lead keyword and watch your click and conversion rates. The title is the cheapest part of a listing to change and often the highest-leverage.
