How to Get Product Photos That Sell
How to get product images that convert: meeting Amazon's main image rules, using secondary images and video to answer buyer questions, and making dropshipping product pages stand out.
Last updated: July 2026
Images do more selling than words. Most shoppers scan the photos, form an opinion, and only then read the text, if they read it at all. Getting your images right is often the single biggest lever on conversion, and it matters just as much whether you sell on Amazon or on your own store.
Amazon's main image rules
Amazon has firm requirements for the main image, and breaking them can get a listing suppressed.
- A pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), so the product stands out and matches every other result.
- At least 1000 x 1000 pixels, which turns on Amazon's zoom. Zoom lets buyers inspect the product closely, and that reduces hesitation.
- The product filling about 85% of the frame, with no text, logos, watermarks, or props.
- The actual product a customer receives, not a lifestyle scene. Save those for the other slots.
Use the other image slots to sell
The main image earns the click. The rest earn the sale. Use them to answer the questions a shopper can't ask you:
- In-use shots that show the product doing its job and give a sense of scale.
- Infographics that call out key features and dimensions.
- Close-ups of materials, texture, and detail.
- Comparison or what's-in-the-box images that set accurate expectations and cut returns.
Photos for dropshipping pages
On your own store you aren't bound by Amazon's rules, but the principles hold. Clean, consistent images build trust, and generic supplier photos a shopper has already seen on ten other stores destroy it. Reshooting even a few key images, or using your own video, is one of the cheapest ways to stand out in a saturated niche.
