How to Use Launch Promotions and Deals

How to use coupons, deals, and Amazon Vine to power a launch: driving early sales velocity and first reviews the compliant way, without training buyers to only buy on discount.

Last updated: July 2026

Promotions are how you buy early sales velocity and first reviews during a launch, when you have neither yet. Used well, a launch discount kick-starts the sales that build rank and the reviews that build trust. Used carelessly, it trains buyers to only buy on deal and eats a margin you needed. The skill is using them deliberately, for a window, with a purpose.

The tools you have

  • Coupons and launch discounts. A visible price cut that lifts conversion and early sales while you build rank. Set a start and end so it's a launch push, not your permanent price.
  • Deals. Amazon's deal placements can drive a burst of volume during a launch, at a cost. Worth it when the velocity buys rank you'll keep.
  • Amazon Vine. The compliant way to seed your first honest reviews. You enrol the product, Vine Voices receive it free, and they post genuine reviews you can't edit. There's an enrolment cost, and the reviews aren't guaranteed positive.

Build velocity, then step back

The point of launch promotions is momentum, not a permanent low price. Discount hard enough to drive real early sales and reviews, then ease back toward your target price as rank and reviews start doing the work. Leaving a deep discount running forever trains your buyers to wait for it and leaves you unable to raise the price without a sales dip.

Stay within the rules on reviews. Discounts and deals to drive sales are fine, but you can't tie a discount to a positive review, or reward reviews with anything. Vine is the only sanctioned way to give product away for reviews.

Watch the real cost

Launch promotions are an investment, so track what they cost against what they buy. A discount that drives the velocity to rank a keyword and earns reviews can pay back many times over, while one that just sells units cheaply to no lasting effect is a leak. Judge a promotion by the rank and reviews it leaves behind, not just the units it moved.
