BSR · Best Sellers Rank

Best Sellers Rank (BSR) is the number Amazon assigns to a product to show how well it sells within its category, where 1 is the best-selling item.

Amazon recalculates BSR roughly every hour based on recent and historical sales, so a low number means high sales speed right now. Ranks are specific to a category. A BSR of 5,000 in a huge category like Home & Kitchen represents far more sales than the same rank in a small one.

BSR measures sales volume, not profit or competition, and it moves constantly. A single day's spike can drop a product thousands of places, so the trend over a few weeks tells you more than any single snapshot.

Why it matters

BSR is the closest public proxy for how many units a product actually sells, which is why it sits at the heart of demand estimates and product validation.
