How to Get More Product Reviews Without Breaking the Rules
How to earn more product reviews the compliant way: Amazon's Request a Review button and the Vine program, honest product inserts, and why buying or incentivizing reviews puts your account at risk.
Last updated: July 2026
Reviews are the social proof that closes a sale. Few shoppers buy a product with no reviews when a rival has hundreds, and on Amazon reviews feed your ranking as well. They're also the area where sellers most often get themselves banned, because the shortcuts are against the rules.
The compliant ways to earn reviews on Amazon
- Request a Review button. Seller Central has a built-in button that sends Amazon's own neutral message asking for a review and rating. It's the one prompt that carries no policy risk, because Amazon controls the wording.
- Amazon Vine. Vine is the only program where you can give a product away for a review and stay compliant, because Amazon runs it. You enrol a product, Vine Voices receive it free, and they post honest reviews you can't edit or remove. There's an enrolment cost, and the reviews are genuine, not guaranteed positive.
- Honest product inserts. You can include an insert that asks for a review, as long as you don't offer anything in return, don't ask only for positive reviews, and don't try to divert unhappy buyers away from leaving one.
- A product worth reviewing. The most durable source of reviews is a good product and a listing that sets accurate expectations, so buyers end up pleased rather than disappointed.
What gets accounts suspended
Amazon banned incentivized reviews in 2016, and it enforces hard. Don't buy reviews, offer refunds or gift cards in exchange for them, ask friends and family to post, or use any review that isn't from a genuine, unincentivised buyer. A single review-manipulation flag can suspend an account, and the risk is never worth the handful of reviews it buys.
Reviews and social proof off Amazon
On a dropshipping store you aren't bound by Amazon's review rules, but the trust problem is the same and honesty still wins. Collect genuine reviews with a follow-up email, show real photos and ratings on the product page, and don't fake them. Shoppers are good at spotting invented five-star reviews, and a store that feels fake doesn't convert.
