How to Expand to New Amazon Marketplaces
How to take a proven product international: choosing a marketplace, handling the extra logistics, tax, and compliance, and localising your listings so the product sells in a new country.
Last updated: July 2026
Once a product sells well in one marketplace, selling it in another is one of the lower-risk ways to grow, because you're taking something proven to new customers rather than betting on a new product. Amazon operates marketplaces across many countries, and a winner at home is often a winner abroad. The work is in the logistics, tax, and localisation, not in the product itself.
Choose the right marketplace
Not every marketplace is worth entering at once. Look at the size of the opportunity, the competition already there, and the practical hurdles of tax and fulfilment for that country. Starting with a marketplace that's large, close to your existing operation, or shares a language keeps the first expansion simpler, so you learn the process on an easier move before tackling harder ones.
Handle the extra complexity
- Fulfilment. You'll need stock in the new region, whether through Amazon's cross-border programmes or by shipping inventory there.
- Tax and compliance. New countries mean new tax registration and product-compliance rules. Get these right, because they're not optional.
- Localisation. Translate and adapt your listing properly, not just word-for-word. Keywords, tone, and units all need to fit the local buyer.
Treat each market as a launch
A new marketplace starts from zero, with no reviews and no rank, so treat it like a fresh launch rather than assuming your success travels automatically. Apply the launch and keyword modules to the new market, build rank and reviews there, and give it the same care the original product got. Expansion is a proven product on a new launch, so use the playbook you already have.
Tick it off to track your progress through the modules.
