How to Use Repricing Without Racing to the Bottom

How repricing works on Amazon: what a repricer does, setting sensible price floors and rules, why rule-based beats blind undercutting, and how to stay competitive without destroying your margin.

Last updated: July 2026

Repricing means adjusting your price automatically to stay competitive, usually to compete for the Buy Box on a shared listing. Done well, it keeps you in the running without you watching prices all day. Done badly, it drags you and everyone else into a downward spiral where nobody makes money. The difference is entirely in the rules you set.

What a repricer does

A repricer changes your price within limits you set, in response to competitors' prices and Buy Box status. The key words are within limits you set. A good repricer isn't trying to be cheapest, it's trying to win the Buy Box at the highest price that still wins, which is a very different goal from blindly undercutting.

Set a floor you never break

The single most important setting is your price floor: the lowest price you'll ever sell at, set from your break-even so you never reprice into a loss. Everything else can be flexible, but the floor protects you from a competitor who's willing to lose money and would happily drag you down with them. Set it from your real numbers, using the margins module, and hold it.

A repricer is only as smart as its floor. Without a break-even floor, repricing just automates your race to the bottom. With one, it keeps you competitive while guaranteeing you never sell at a loss.

Prefer rules to reflexes

Rule-based repricing, competing on fulfilment and staying within a sensible range, beats reflexive undercutting. If you're an FBA seller against an FBM competitor, you often don't need to match their lower price to win the Buy Box, so a rule that accounts for that protects your margin. The aim is to win the sale at the best price you can, not the lowest price anyone will accept.
