How to Track Keyword Rankings and Check Indexing
How to track where your product ranks for its keywords and confirm Amazon has indexed them: what indexing means, how to check it, and how to read rank changes without overreacting.

Once you've placed your keywords, you need to know whether they're working. Two questions matter: is Amazon indexing your keywords at all, and where do you rank for the ones that count? Tracking both turns keyword research from a one-off guess into a loop you can improve.
First, check indexing
Indexing simply means Amazon has registered your product for a keyword, so you're eligible to appear in results for it. If you're not indexed for a term, you can't rank for it no matter how good your listing is. The quick check: search the term together with your ASIN. If your product shows up, you're indexed. If it doesn't, the keyword isn't registered, usually because it's missing from your listing and backend fields, and no amount of waiting will fix that.
Then, track your rank
For the keywords you're indexed on, rank tracking shows where you sit in the results and how that moves over time. That's how you tell whether a change to your listing, your ads, or your price actually helped. Watch the terms you care about most, and watch the trend rather than the daily number.
- Track your priority keywords, not every term. A focused list you actually watch beats a giant one you ignore.
- Read the trend over weeks. Rankings bounce day to day, so a single drop rarely means anything.
- Tie changes to causes. When rank moves, ask what you changed, a price, an image, an ad campaign, so you learn what works.
Turn tracking into action
Tracking isn't just watching, it's a feedback loop. A keyword you're indexed on but ranking poorly for might need more relevance in the listing or a PPC push to build sales history. A keyword you're not indexed on needs to go into your copy or backend fields. Read the data, make one change, and watch what it does.
