How to Handle Amazon Listing Hijackers

How to deal with listing hijackers: spotting when another seller latches onto your listing or sells counterfeits, the steps to remove them, and how Brand Registry prevents most of it.

Last updated: July 2026

A listing hijacker is another seller who attaches their offer to your product listing, or sells a counterfeit version of it, often winning the Buy Box with a lower price or worse quality. It's a common problem once a private-label product succeeds, and left unchecked it steals your sales and risks your reputation when a buyer receives an inferior item. Handling it quickly protects both your revenue and your reviews.

Spot it early

You'll usually notice a hijacker as an unexplained drop in sales or Buy Box share, a new seller on your listing, or a jump in complaints about quality you know isn't yours. Monitoring your listings and Buy Box status is how you catch it fast, because the sooner you act, the less damage a hijacker does.

The steps to remove them

  1. Confirm what's happening. Check whether it's a legitimate reseller or a counterfeit, because that shapes your options.
  2. Contact the seller. A firm cease-and-desist is sometimes enough to make an opportunist move on.
  3. Report to Amazon. If you're brand-registered, use Amazon's tools to report the violation, which is faster and carries more weight.
  4. Do a test buy if needed. Ordering the hijacker's version can document a counterfeit or a materially different product to support your complaint.
Brand Registry is your best defence. Registered brands get tools to report and remove infringing sellers quickly, and are much harder to hijack in the first place. The Brand Registry guide below covers it.

Prevent the next one

Removing a hijacker is reactive. Preventing them is better. Brand Registry, and options like Amazon's Transparency programme, make your listings far harder to attach to or counterfeit. Combined with monitoring that alerts you to changes on your listings, they turn hijacking from a recurring threat into a rare, quickly-handled nuisance.
