Honeymoon period

The honeymoon period is the informal name for a new Amazon listing's early weeks, when the algorithm gives it extra visibility while it gathers performance data.

Amazon has never documented it, but sellers consistently observe that new listings get a window of boosted exposure while the algorithm works out where they belong. Strong early sales and conversion during this window seem to translate into better lasting rank than the same performance later on.

That's why launch plans front-load effort: full keyword optimisation before going live, PPC from day one, and promotions to drive early velocity. A listing published half-finished spends its honeymoon teaching the algorithm that it doesn't convert.

Why it matters

The early weeks of a listing appear to punch above their weight in deciding its long-term rank, so launching prepared beats optimising after the fact.
