How to Find and Vet Product Suppliers
How to find reliable suppliers and vet them before you order: Alibaba for Amazon FBA bulk orders, AliExpress and Temu for dropshipping, and the checks that protect you from bad stock and long delays.
Last updated: July 2026
Your supplier decides your landed cost, your product quality, and how long a customer waits, so the choice feeds straight into your margin and your reviews. Finding suppliers is easy. Vetting them so you don't get burned is the part that takes care.
Where to look, by model
Amazon FBA and private label
For branded, bulk orders, Alibaba is the standard starting point. You want a manufacturer that can make your product to spec, in the quantities you need, with room to add your branding. Order samples before you commit to a production run, every time.
Dropshipping
AliExpress and Temu suit dropshipping because you can buy single units with no minimum order, which keeps testing cheap. The trade-off is longer, less predictable shipping, so build delivery time into both your ads and your refund expectations.
How to vet a supplier
Whichever platform you use, run the same checks before you send real money.
- Track record. Favour suppliers with a long history, high order volume, and consistent ratings over a brand-new store with perfect but thin reviews.
- Samples first. Order a sample and inspect it yourself. Photos hide a lot, and a product you'd be embarrassed to ship is a product that generates returns.
- Responsiveness. Message them before you buy. Slow or vague answers now become expensive silence when an order goes wrong.
- Certifications and compliance. For anything electrical, cosmetic, or made for children, confirm the product meets the safety and labelling rules of the market you sell into.
- Clear terms. Pin down price at your quantity, lead time, shipping method, and what happens with defects, in writing, before the first order.
Protecting your margin and your timeline
Two supplier problems quietly wreck otherwise good products: cost creep and slow shipping. Lock your unit cost at the quantity you'll actually order, because a price quoted for 1,000 units means little if you're buying 200. And build realistic shipping times into your plan, since stockouts on Amazon cost you rank and long delivery windows in dropshipping drive refunds. A reliable supplier who costs a little more often beats a cheap one who's late.
Tick it off to track your progress through the modules.
