How to Drive External Traffic to Your Products

How to bring buyers from outside the platform: using social, content, email, and influencers, why Amazon rewards external traffic, and how to send outside visitors without wasting them.

Last updated: July 2026

External traffic is anyone you bring to your product from outside the platform's own search: from social media, content, email, or influencers. It matters for two reasons. It reduces your dependence on Amazon's or the platform's search, and on Amazon, sales from outside traffic can actually help your rank, because they add sales and signal demand. Building even one outside channel makes your business sturdier.

The channels worth building

  • Social media. An audience on TikTok, Instagram, or elsewhere that you can point at your products, and that you own rather than rent.
  • Content and SEO. Articles, videos, and guides that rank in Google and send buyers to you over time, the same play this Academy is built on.
  • Email. A list of past and interested buyers is one of the few audiences a platform can't take from you, and it's cheap to reach again.
  • Influencers. Creators in your niche who can put your product in front of a warm, relevant audience quickly.
External traffic is an asset you own. Platform rank can vanish with an algorithm change, but an email list, an audience, and content that ranks are yours. They're slower to build and far harder to take away.

Send traffic so it doesn't go to waste

Cold external traffic converts worse than platform search, because those visitors weren't already shopping, so send it deliberately. Point it at a strong, relevant listing or page, warm it with content before you ask for the sale, and, on Amazon, consider sending it in ways that build your rank. Traffic dumped on a weak page is wasted. Traffic guided to a page built to convert is growth you don't have to rent.
